Plant pathology: Many roads lead to resistance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recent studies suggest that plant disease-resistance responses use multiple signaling pathways acting subsequent to pathogen recognition, and that phosphorylation cascades play a prominent role in the recognition and execution of foreign invaders.

Pathogen-associated molecular pattern-triggered immunity: veni, vidi...?
For many years, plant pathology was divided into two schools of thought. It was clear that purified molecules or crude extracts from microbes or plants (referred to as general elicitors) could induce activation of general defense responses (Boller, 1995). Geneticists instead were studying plant resistance triggered by the recognition of a given pathogen Avirulence gene product by the correspond...
متن کاملPhenotypic and Molecular Screening of Tomato Germplasm for Resistance to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus
Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is a major tomato virus in tropical and subtropical regions. In this study, 134 accessions of Solanum lycopersicum and six accessions of Solanum peruvianum were assessed for resistance to an Iranian isolate of TYLCV. Plants were inoculated using whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) and the reaction of plants was evaluated based on either disease symptoms or viral DN...

متن کاملQuantitative resistance can lead to evolutionary changes in traits not targeted by the resistance QTLs
This paper addresses the general concern in plant pathology that the introduction of quantitative resistance in the landscape can lead to increased pathogenicity. Hereto, we study the hypothetical case of a quantitative trait loci (QTL) acting on pathogen spore production per unit lesion area. To regain its original fitness, the pathogen can break the QTL, restoring its spore production capacit...

Twenty isolates of Trichoderma harzianum wereisolated from the rhizosphere of healthy pistachio plants from different localities of Kerman Province, Iran.Five isolates with high antagonistic activity in in vitro assays against Verticillium dahliae (the causal agent of pistachio wilt), were investigated for their effect on the defense enzymes, peroxidase (PO), phenyl alanine-ammonia lyase (PAL) ...
